It seems that multiday races are the next step for those who like to run. We could say these race are closer to the ultra running than trail running, but still there are a number of races closer to trail running. The Marathon Des Sables (MDS) and the 4 Deserts series is somewhat responsible for this “category” of races. We should make a difference between multidays and non-stop, the last one could be any ultra having a duration long enough to take 1 or more days to complete without stop/sleep/hotels/tents. Let’s say these races are much closer to a “sport tourism” that of a pure competition, because they develop in places that have an interesting and attractive addition. Here we will focus on those you have somewhere to sleep and eat between stages.

These multiday races appear to be the entrance or exit for many long distance runners. Anne-Marie Flammersfeld and Vicente Juan Garcia, the first to win the 4 deserts in one year, Ryan Sandes, the first to win the 4 deserts, Daniel Rowland won Atacama Crossing 2013, Kaem The Jungle Ultra 2013 and 2014 and the restless Mike Wardian also ran the Marathon Des Sables, Marco Olmo, 2 times winner of the UTMB and fireproof runner of Marathon Des Sables, among a long list of runners.
